K-Electric has petitioned the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority for an additional Rs 3 on the price of electricity.
It is probable that electricity costs in Karachi will continue to rise. The information indicates that K-Electric petitioned the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority for an additional Rs 3 increase in the price of electricity. An invoice for Rs has been submitted by K-Electric for a quarterly adjustment. The petition has petitioned NEPRA to increase the unit price. The petition is scheduled to be addressed on October 19, and should it be approved, electric consumers of the load will be subject to an additional charge of Rs 357 million.
It is noteworthy to mention that electricity became prohibitively expensive for the residents of Karachi a few days ago. The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) granted approval on October 6 for an increase of Rs 4.45 per unit in rates for consumers of K-Electric.
In response to the petition submitted by K-Electric, NEPRA granted approval for the unit price increase during the initial quarter of the previous fiscal year.
As per the NEPRA, customers of K-Electric will incur supplementary charges on their October and November 2023 invoices. The price per unit of electricity provided by K-Electric has increased from Rs 1.49 to Rs 4.45. The federal government issued a notification to increase the price of electricity for K-Electric customers immediately following the ratification of NEPRA. The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) authorized the nationwide increase in electricity rates for consumers earlier in the day.
As stated in the NEPRA notification, the unit cost of electricity has increased by Rs 71. This increase is a result of the monthly fuel adjustment implemented in August. The revised electricity prices will be reflected on customers' October bills; however, Lifeline and K-Electric customers will not be affected. Furthermore, electricity users in Karachi and the rest of the nation have been subjected to a financial burden exceeding Rs160 billion. Quarterly adjustments for the period of April to June 2023 are scheduled to take place between October 2023 and March 2024. The aforementioned price increase will affect all electricity consumers nationwide.
It has been communicated that in accordance with this decision, monthly charges will increase by Rs 328 14 paise for consumers purchasing 100 units, Rs 656 28 paise for consumers purchasing 200 units, Rs 684 42 paise for consumers purchasing 300 units, and Rs 912 for consumers purchasing 400 units. In addition to an additional Rs 1140 per unit for 500 units, consumers will be required to pay Rs 1,368 for 600 units, and Rs 1,596 per month for 700 units. In addition to capacity payment of Rs 114 billion, consumers will be charged Rs 14 billion for utilizing the electricity system.
